Luis Campos arrived at Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022, replacing sporting director Leonardo, but with a special role as “soccer advisor”. His track record is a regular topic of debate, and rumours of a departure have been circulating for months, along with those of a contract extension. There was also talk last night of a discussion with Chelsea. Journalist Ben Jacobs responded very clearly.
“PSG is still working on Campos’ extension.”
Understand links with Luis Campos and Chelsea are wide of the mark. Chelsea not currently looking for a ‘CEO of Football’, or to bring in Campos in any capacity. Chelsea value their current recruitment team, led by the sporting directors, who continue to work closely with Enzo Maresca.
PSG are still working on Campos extending. Although freelance, the terms of his PSG contract both now, and if a renewal is agreed, prevent him from working with any Premier League club while contracted to the French champions.”
As long as no contract extension has been made official, a departure seems at least conceivable. In the absence of any clarification from either PSG or Campos, it’s only logical that the rumours should pile up. For the time being, we must remain cautious.
But while some people took Campos’s departure for granted when PSG’s results were not so good, there is now a consensus that the Parisian team is very interesting. Thanks in part to coach Luis Enrique, of course. We shouldn’t forget the work of the sporting consultant, and Paris may want to keep him on board. Let’s wait and see what the outcome of the various reflections and discussions will be.
