The Ligue de Football Professionnel issued an official statement announcing the dates for the 2025-2026 season. We now know that Ligue 1 will start on the weekend of Sunday August 17, 2025, and finish on Sunday May 16, 2025.
The 2025/2026 season will resume on the weekend of August 15/16/17, 2025.
One day of the championship, Matchday 10, will be scheduled during the week on Wednesday October 29, 2025.
Matchday 16, scheduled for the weekend of December 14, 2025, will be the last matchday of the 2025 calendar year.
The season resumes with Matchday 17, scheduled for the weekend of January 4, 2026.
The 34th and final round will be played on the weekend of May 16, 2026.
“To close the season, Play-off 1 between League 2 BKT’s 4th and 5th will take place on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The winner of this match will take on League 2 BKT 3rd in a second Play-off scheduled for Friday May 15, 2026.
The first leg of the McDonald’s League 1 Accession Play-off will take place on Thursday May 21, 2026, with the second leg on Sunday May 24, 2026. The double-header will pit 16th-placed McDonald’s Ligue 1 against the winner of the Ligue 2 play-offs, BKT.”
Ligue 1 will get underway a little later than in other years, due to the Club World Cup, but the time lag is actually quite slight. We’ll have to wait and see what the fixture list looks like. Whatever happens this summer, we need to finish the current season first.
