On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain faced Liverpool at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of the Champions League 2024-2025 Round of 16 (return on Tuesday March 11). After a match in which the Rouge et Bleu clearly dominated, they lost 0-1 (video highlights PSG/Liverpool). Here are our scores for the Parisians.
Goalkeeper –
Gianluigi Donnarumma (5) – A trouble-free first half, with no shots on target and, above all, some reassuring aerial runs. Didn’t make the difference on the goal he scored, in contrast to Alisson’s performance.
Defenders –
Achraf Hakimi (7) – Great first half. Bad choices in the second half. Too ineffective unfortunately.
Marquinhos (8) – Played a major role in Paris’ first half. Anticipated everything.
Willian Pacho (7) – Very solid, but had a few wobbly moments. Did a good job in the first half. Less technically precise than his partner. Also regrets his restarting quality.
Nuno Mendes (7) – An excellent first half. He was expected to perform and he did. His speed was a real asset both defensively and offensively. He was often quicker than his opponents.
Midfielders –
Fabian Ruiz (6.5) – Very mobile, he had a very good first half, both in his positioning and in his choices. A fine second half too. Replaced by Warren Zaïre-Emery in the 78th minute.
Vitinha (7.5) – A true metronome, he played in an armchair in the first half. He’s done everything for Liverpool, and he too deserves more attention from all quarters, such is his strength. Managed the midfield like a maestro.
Joao Neves (7) – Did a great job in the first half, could have scored, had plenty to show for his talent. At 20, he has shown that he can play a big role in one of Europe’s best teams.
Forwards –
Ousmane Dembélé (6) – His first half showed that he has taken over the offensive leadership. He didn’t score, but he hurt. It’s a pity he forced his shots too much in the second half. Frustration made him make the wrong choices.
Kvhicha Kvaratskhelia (7) – His first half validated Luis Enrique’s choice. He made big differences. It’s a pity he was offside on his goal, which could have given the match a real boost. His second half was less intense, although he continued to offer some good stuff. Replaced by Gonçalo Ramos in the 77th minute.
Bradley Barcola (6) – Missed too much, but that’s also because he had plenty of chances. His first half was good, frustrating and encouraging. All in all, a frustrating performance. Replaced by Désiré Doué in the 66th minute.
Coach –
Luis Enrique (7) – PSG’s first half was no laughing matter. It shows the quality work he does at PSG. However, he lacked that little something to “kill” the match. The goal we scored hurt our heads.
