Marquinhos, Paris Saint-Germain’s 30-year-old central defender and captain, spoke to Canal+ after the penalty shoot-out victory (1-1 on aggregate, then 1-4 on penalties) over Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday in the second leg of the Champions League 2024-2025 Round of 16 (Liverpool/PSG video highlights). He spoke of a deserved qualification and, of course, the rest of the season.
Marquinhos “It’s a special day for us.”
Is it easier to live on the pitch or on the bench?
On the bench it’s very difficult, but on the pitch you get things done. We played a great game and really deserved to qualify. There’s no comparison between the two matches. Today, I’m happy we went through because we really deserved it.
Where do you place this qualification against Liverpool in your PSG history?
I’d put it on the same level as March 11, you know, against Chelsea. It’s also Dortmund every 5 years. It’s a special day for us. To come here and win here with a very young team, one of the youngest in this Champions League, and I think the coach, the staff, everyone is doing a great job. I’m very happy, very happy.
Marquinhos: “You can’t stop there.”
Is there no limit?
No, there’s no limit, but we have to improve as we always say, we can’t stop here. It’s only the Round of 8 and we’ve still got a lot of work to do. We’ve got Marseille at home on Sunday. We don’t have the time, and we need to get ready for the next game already.
