This week saw the return quarter-finals of the Champions League 2024-2025. UEFA then organizes a series of fan votes. Paris Saint-Germain, who qualified against Aston Villa (3-2, 4-5 aggregate), had one player in contention for the Champions League’s best player award. The competition was between Ousmane Dembélé (27-year-old PSG striker), Serhou Guirassy (29-year-old Borussia Dortmund striker), Declan Rice (26-year-old Arsenal midfielder) and Lautaro Martinez (27-year-old Inter Milan striker). Guirassy came out on top.
A logical victory, with Guirassy scoring a hat-trick, even if it wasn’t enough for Dortmund to qualify. Just as Dembélé’s last-place finish came as no surprise, since his Best Player award was one of the week’s surprises. Instead, we were expecting Gianluigi Donnarumma (26-year-old goalkeeper), who would have had a little more say in the competition.
