While rumors are already rife, particularly around Paris Saint-Germain, the 2024 summer mercato won’t be starting just yet. On Wednesday, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) announced the dates for the 2024-2025 mercato (summer and winter). The summer period will not officially open until Monday June 10.
“At its meeting on February 27, the Board of Directors of the Ligue de Football Professionnel decided to implement the exceptional mercato period from June 1 to 10, 2025 authorized by FIFA in connection with the organization of the Club World Cup from June 14 to July 13, 2025.
Following the complementary period linked to the Club World Cup and in order to respect the limit of days authorized by FIFA, the usual summer mercato will start on Monday June 16, 2025 and end on Monday September 1, 2025 at 8:00 pm.
The winter mercato will start on Thursday, January 1, 2026 and close on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 8:00 p.m.”
The dates have now been set, allowing us to project ahead a little and find out when the formalities might take place. Even if you have to bear in mind that discussions can take place beforehand. This is often the case for some transfers.
We’re pleased to note that the mercato will stop at 8pm from now on, so there’s no need to stay up too late watching for any surprises.
