According to L’Équipe, Luis Campos (PSG sporting advisor, 59) has outlined the priorities for the Parisian mercato, in agreement with Nasser Al-Khelaïfi (president, 50) and Luis Enrique (coach, 54). The club has set its sights on a right-sided central defender, and would like to start by streamlining the squad to encourage the emergence of young talent from the academy.
“we’d have to have some departures before recruiting.
“In his private meetings over the last few weeks, Luis Campos, the club’s strategic advisor – who is working on the summer mercato without having yet extended his contract, a clue to what’s to come? – has revealed the ambitions of the trio he forms with president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and coach Luis Enrique.
He explained that his priority was to sign a versatile right-handed central defender. The Portuguese then suggested to his various interlocutors that some departures would be necessary before recruiting, in order to “keep our squad small and leave room for some young players.”
We’re still in the early stages of the summer mercato, but there’s no doubt that PSG will continue its strategy of bringing in young players with great potential. Naturally, the question will arise as to the departure of certain players, and the roadmap will certainly be adapted to take account of these departures.
It’s good to see the club continuing to bank on youngsters from the academy, or even players like Lucas Beraldo, who could be given a second chance after a lacklustre season.
