Paris Saint-Germain lost 0-1 to Botafogo (video highlights PSG – Botafogo) this Friday at the Rose Bowl Stadium as part of Day 2 of the 2025 World Cup. After the match, Paris coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Enrique “In this particular case, I think Botafogo played very well and I congratulate them for that.”
“I think today Botafogo were the team that defended best against us all season, obviously in La Liga and the Champions League. I think they played very well, they didn’t block the defense from the start, they were very efficient and very solid.
They always had the chance to make transitions, and they scored a goal from a superb move by Igor Jesus, which gave them a morale boost. We’re used to working against low blocks, but it’s always difficult to attack a team that defends low. In this particular case, I think Botafogo played very well and I congratulate them for that.”
Enrique “I think our team specializes in having bad moments and other superior ones”
“We knew it was going to be a tough game. They defended very well and we had a few chances to score, but the match was difficult, even complicated. We need to progress and think about the last game in our group.
I think our team specializes in having bad moments and good moments. And in that sense, today, I don’t think anyone expected this result, but they deserved to play such a close game.”
Enrique “There are 90 minutes left and a lot can happen”
“For us, it’s a moment to analyze everything, to see where the improvements are. It’s a very difficult competition because the next match will be key and, if we win and have the chance to move forward in the competition, it’ll be matches like this all the time. There are 90 minutes left and a lot can happen. The next game will be crucial.”
Enrique “It’s been difficult to create goal-scoring chances.”
“It’s a very intense competition. Everyone is highly motivated whatever the team we’re up against, and especially against us. It’s been difficult to create goal-scoring opportunities. It’s a phase of the game we know well, but today (Friday) we had complications.
If there’s one team capable of turning a situation around, it’s ours. And there aren’t many of them.”
