Lucas Chevalier, 23-year-old goalkeeper for Lille (contract until 2027) and the French national team, is rumored to be close to Paris Saint-Germain in this mercato to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma (26, contract until 2026 and extension blocked). Sky Sport claims this Wednesday that the Lille man is on his way and could even be in the squad for the European Supercup against Tottenham on August 13.
“When Chevalier arrives, Donnaruma will leave. He can’t afford to spend a year on the bench with the World Cup coming up. Luis Enrique is convinced that Chevalier is as good as, if not better than, Donnarumma.”
“Chevalier is very confident and calm on his feet, and Luis Enrique is looking for a keeper like him who also plays an important role.”
2⃣ Campos has been trying to recruit Chevalier from PSG for the past two years. The only position in the team where Luis Enrique has not given his opinion since his arrival.
Chevalier could already be in PSG’s squad for the European Supercup.
The problem in the Donnarumma dossier was that the goalkeeper wanted a pay rise, but the club offered the same salary with a variable component.
A source close to the matter told Sky Sports DE “
We remain cautious, as the media are very good at getting carried away too quickly and suggesting that the transfer is almost complete when there are still a lot of elements to be completed. But given the time remaining, it’s quite possible that Chevalier will be in the squad against Tottenham. He could even be training for the restart on August 6.
Let’s wait and see, though, as there’s always the possibility of twists and turns even though there’s been no official confirmation whatsoever. Donnarumma may yet extend his contract with PSG, and it wouldn’t be the first time that a case has gone from rumour to reality.
