Fresh from winning the Champions League as captain of Paris Saint-Germain, 31-year-old defender Marquinhos is the subject of interest from Saudi clubs. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri confirmed L’Equipe‘s reports, stating that the Brazilian, who is under contract until 2028, has nonetheless chosen to stay with PSG and honor the Red and Blue colors as he has done since 2013.
“Malgré l’intérêt de clubs saoudiens, Marquinhos a décidé de rester au Paris Saint-Germain pour une saison supplémentaire. 1st call.”
A logical and unsurprising choice, even if the rumors were never very persistent either. Having been with PSG since 2013, Marquinhos has just achieved the goal of a lifetime by winning the Champions League. Under Luis Enrique, the Brazilian is understandably keen to build on this momentum and continue to make his mark on the club’s history.
At the age of 31, Marquinhos is also arriving at a time when experience is blending with talent, which is a premium for a central defender. Marquinhos still has several fine seasons ahead of him, and should make the most of them in a red-and-blue shirt.
