On the opening day of Ligue 1’s second round, Paris Saint-Germain secured a 1-0 victory over Angers SCO at the Parc des Princes. After the match, 19-year-old midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery spoke about the early performances of PSG’s new goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier (23).

“Chevalier? I played with him a little in the French national team, he’s a really good guy. He adapts very easily, and we’ve also helped him settle in. His initiation? I don’t even remember. (Laughs) But seriously, he’s a good goalkeeper and we wish him the best here with us.”

Signed this summer from Lille to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma, Chevalier has had an easier adaptation thanks to his background in Ligue 1 and French football. Already decisive in the UEFA Super Cup with his performance in the penalty shootout, he has found it more difficult to stand out in the league, where PSG often dominates their opponents.

However, against sides willing to attack and play more openly, the French shot-stopper should have greater opportunities to showcase his talent. Time will tell whether he can establish himself as PSG’s new reliable last line of defense.
