Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference this Wednesday ahead of facing Atalanta at the Parc des Princes tomorrow (kick-off at 9 p.m., live on Canal+) in the opening match of the 2025–2026 Champions League. On the sidelines of the event, the Spaniard also spoke to PSG TV, discussing how to approach the competition as defending champions and what to expect from their opponents.
Luis Enrique: “We have to try to make history.”
Being the defending champions — does that bring pressure?
“No, none at all — it’s wonderful! We’re champions, we’re starting the competition we want. When you are a club like PSG, a city like Paris, with our supporters, we have to be ambitious. We have to try to make history. We’re aiming for a second Champions League title — that’s the goal.”
Luis Enrique: “The particularity is that Atalanta have changed coach.”
What will be the keys to the match?
“It’s the first game of this schedule, everyone has talked about it because it’s a different competition. It’s the first one at home, with our supporters, with the particularity that Atalanta have changed coach and have only played three matches, so we don’t really know how they’ll behave. And we’re used to seeing opponents change their approach against us. It will be a tough, difficult match, but we have to know how to handle that. I think, as usual, we’re ready.”
