Grzegorz Krychowiak, a midfielder who trained at Girondins de Bordeaux and then played for Reims, Nantes, FC Sevilla, and Paris Saint-Germain, announced his retirement from sports last night at the age of 35.

“It’s time to take on new challenges. (…) I am an accomplished footballer, I have no regrets and I wouldn’t change anything. I accept my career as it was: with moments full of joy and success, but also with difficult moments that taught me a lot,” he wrote on social media in comments translated by L’Equipe.

The Polish international (100 caps) did not have a particularly memorable spell at PSG: 19 games from 2016 to 2019, including loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Lokomotiv Moscow (where he then left on a permanent transfer). It’s hard to say that he will truly go down in the club’s history, but he has left his mark on Ligue 1.

After making his debut in Bordeaux (2 games), Krychowiak made a name for himself in Reims (143 games in total) and Nantes (44 games). This was enough to secure him a transfer to Sevilla FC, where he continued to grow for two seasons (2014-2016), playing 90 games and winning two Europa League titles. Unfortunately, his spell at PSG did not confirm his rise to prominence.

Today, after a final season at Anorthosis Famagusta (Cyprus), and having played in Russia, Greece, and Saudi Arabia, he is ending his eventful career. We wish him courage in this new phase, which can sometimes be very unsettling for players, and we thank him for his professionalism in Paris.
