Lucas Hernandez, the 29-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender, spoke to Ligue1+ after the 3-2 victory against Olympique Lyonnais this Sunday at Parc OL in Matchday 12 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. He discussed an area for improvement and a starting lineup choice made by coach Luis Enrique.
Hernandez: “That’s what we’ll have to improve to string together wins.”
Wasn’t the second half difficult?
Yes, it’s true that playing here is never easy. To win championships, you have to go through moments like that, and that’s how you win the league. Overall, we played a good match, even if there were a couple of mistakes on Lyon’s goals. In general, the team was solid, and the goal at the end of the match was a huge boost.
You were hesitant on through balls, what were you thinking?
No, I think Lyon played their cards right. Defensively, they were able to control the game, and we didn’t put enough pressure on them. You shouldn’t be so high up the pitch; you need to drop back a bit. It’s about adjustments, and we need to work on that because these are difficult moments, especially when you’re leading and they come back. That’s what we’ll have to improve to string together wins and win matches. We’re missing a lot of players, and the players who were there were very effective. What matters is getting the three points.
Hernandez: “That was the main instruction.”
Why did you clear the six-yard box today?
No, I think especially at the beginning of the match, we had this instruction from the coach to try not to play you at the back because Lyon were pressing very hard. We didn’t want to take any risks in the first 10-15 minutes. That was the main instruction: not to take too many risks in the penalty area.
