A few weeks ago, tensions and discomfort were reported within the coaching staff of Paris Saint-Germain’s youth academy. This led to an investigation by the labour inspectorate as well as an internal inquiry. Le Parisien obtained the reaction of academy director Yohan Cabaye (former PSG and France international midfielder).
Cabaye: “We are here, all together, all departments, for one single reason.”
“When you have ambition, you necessarily need the level of demand that goes with it,” he said. “We have to keep working, keep moving forward. There was indeed an inspection. We have our own way of working, but we work well. We are here, all together, all departments, for one single reason: to help the young players climb to the top of the staircase. That is our main focus.”
The Parisian director stated that the investigation only requested “a bit more communication.” “This episode comes at a time when the academy is experiencing its best period,” he continued. “The ambition and the daily demands we put in are positive because they give us the energy to develop players. What happens on the side doesn’t interest me.”
There is no particular concern being expressed, but rather a reminder that PSG must deliver high-quality work in its youth development. That implies a certain level of demand at every level. Perhaps there were a few excesses, or perhaps some staff members felt overwhelmed and blamed the club.
There are likely adjustments that can be made, without this becoming a legal matter. It may be organisational, or linked to the “communication” Cabaye mentioned. In any case, caution is needed before dramatizing the situation, contrary to what is often seen in the media.Restons prudents tant que tout n’est pas éclairci.
