Paris Saint-Germain defeated Tottenham 5-3 this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 5 of the 2025-2026 Champions League. After this victory, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Enrique: “We saw last season how difficult it is to reach the top 24.”
Was the second half your main source of satisfaction?
“There are no easy matches in the Champions League. Tottenham defended very well in the first half. We had to come back from two goals down. It’s very complicated, very difficult. We played a complete match. I would like to congratulate our fans because the atmosphere is incredible when things get tough.
The team can only maintain that mentality afterward.” We’re very happy to have these twelve points and we’re practically guaranteed a top-24 finish. We saw last season how difficult it is to break into the top 24.
A word on Vitinha’s performance?
“He was as usual: sensational, out of this league. We’re very happy to have him here. The best thing he did today was want to score after making a mistake. That’s the kind of personality we love. Our three midfielders were incredible.”
Were the Parc des Princes and the fans decisive in this victory?
“Tonight (Wednesday), it was a demonstration of what true fans are all about. The first half wasn’t good for us. We overcame that. I saw their constant support.”
Enrique: “It’s well deserved. The team continues to grow.”
You have the best attack in the Champions League with 19 goals, is that something to be proud of?
“We have twelve points in the Champions League, we’re top of Ligue 1, and we haven’t even played a single match with the whole team in form. That’s never happened before. We haven’t seen goals from Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, or any of the other forwards. It’s well deserved. The team continues to grow.”
Why did you start Quentin Ndjantou?
“He was sensational. He holds the ball up as a number 9, but at the same time, he’s very mobile, he plays everywhere. He showed his personality. He’s a real signing! Without going through the transfer window. I like the way he plays. We’re ahead of the other teams: we’ve made some signings.”
What did you think of the first two goals conceded by Lucas Chevalier?
“Let me remember, I’m tired.” The first goal was poorly defended because the full-back was unmarked and Pacho was alone in the center. The second was a set piece. The third was an assist from Vitinha.
Is the English league still as strong?
“I don’t want to answer that. I’m not here to judge the teams. The English are at a very high level, but there are still many matches to play. Arsenal are top of the league and the Champions League. We have the toughest schedule.”
