Krépin Diatta, the 26-year-old right winger for AS Monaco and Senegal, was interviewed in the mixed zone after the 1-1 draw against DR Congo (matchday 2 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations) regarding the contribution of Ibrahim Mbaye, the 17-year-old Paris Saint-Germain striker.
“He has that spark within him. He’s young, but you don’t see it on the pitch. Every time he comes on, he brings something extra. I’m very happy with what he’s doing, and we hope he continues to lift the team,” he said, as reported by L’Equipe.
Mbaye has quickly made a name for himself by being decisive for Senegal; he will need to maintain this form and improve even further. Diatta’s praise is certainly welcome. However, it’s worth noting that the Parisian’s youth is still evident at times. It’s not illogical at 17; he still needs to refine his game, both in his decision-making and execution.
But the young player is certainly capable of being an asset, and we’re delighted to see him settling in well in Senegal. This AFCON could help him progress even further, both in terms of confidence and experience. This is beneficial for him, his country, and PSG.
