This Saturday, January 3rd, the French sports press focused on Paris Saint-Germain’s upcoming derby against Paris FC, taking place this Sunday as part of Matchday 17 of Ligue 1 (kick-off at 8:45 PM, CET). This provided an opportunity to highlight the rich football scene in the capital, to hear some thoughts on Paris from Kevin Trapp (the 35-year-old PFC goalkeeper who previously played for PSG), and to discuss the potentially longer-term injury of Matvey Safonov (the 26-year-old goalkeeper).

Trapp knows Paris particularly well, having signed with PFC last summer after playing for PSG for three years (2015-2018). This is a special match for him and a chance to showcase the capital, with its magnificent locations. There are plenty of stadiums and clubs to play football in, even if the pitches fill up quickly. Sometimes you have to “fight” for time slots. But the pool of players is extraordinary. PSG and PFC can draw on it, which is great.

As for Safonov, it’s now being said that he’ll be out for 5 to 6 weeks rather than 3-4. It’s not a huge difference, and it’s not official yet, so we’re remaining cautious. But we suspect the staff will take the time to properly treat their goalkeeper before bringing him back into the squad. As with every injury.
