Paris Saint-Germain faced Olympique de Marseille this Thursday in the Trophée des Champions (2–2, 4–1 on penalties). After the victory, Nuno Mendes, the 23-year-old Parisian full-back, spoke to PSG TV.
Nuno Mendes: “Another trophy for Paris Saint-Germain”
“This is Paris Saint-Germain. We never stop — we want to win every match, and that’s what happened today. I think it was a good team performance, we gave everything until the end and that’s important. The emotion is strong. Another trophy for Paris Saint-Germain. We’re showing that we are the best in France, and today we deserved to win, so we’re very happy.”
It was a great victory for PSG, who went all the way to the edge of suspense by winning the match in a penalty shootout. The game was largely controlled by Luis Enrique’s men, but after a few minutes of slackness and two mistakes, Marseille were able to get back into the match and then take the lead.
PSG, who have already shown their mental strength, managed to stay in the game. Thanks to super-sub Gonçalo Ramos, the 24-year-old striker, the club from the capital kept believing and stayed in contention for another trophy. The penalty shootout was then a complete success, with Lucas Chevalier, in addition to a very convincing overall performance, delivering a perfect shootout.
The year 2026 therefore starts in the best possible way for PSG, who lift their first title of the year. The 2025 calendar year ended with the Intercontinental Cup, and the new year begins with a trophy against their Marseille rivals, who remain without silverware for the past 14 years.
