On Monday evening, the Parc des Princes relived a Derby, as the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France pitted Paris Saint-Germain against Paris FC. Unfortunately for the Rouge et Bleu, facing a resolutely defensive block, they never managed to find the back of the net. And it was a former PSG youth player who reignited the curse by scoring the only goal of the match, sealing PSG’s elimination (0-1. Jonathan Ikoné, Paris FC striker, spoke about his goal and his club’s victory:
Ikoné: “I’m grateful for the rest of my life.”
Did PSG drop a notch or did you raise your level of play?
I think we raised our level of play, we defended better, we were more compact. But when they come up against a team that defends well, I think they miss passes. It happens to everyone.
In any case, we’re proud of ourselves. We defended incredibly well and we managed to score to win.
No celebration after your goal?
I can’t forget where I come from, of course. They gave me everything, taught me everything. I’ll be grateful for the rest of my life. Of course, I’m never going to celebrate here. But I’m incredibly happy to score and help my team win.
