The 2025/2026 winter transfer window runs from Thursday, January 1st to Monday, February 2nd (8 PM CET), and rumors surrounding Paris Saint-Germain are swirling. This time, Mundo Deportivo and journalist Fabrizio Romano are reporting that PSG is making progress in signing Pedro Fernandez Sarmiento, often called Dro Fernandez. The 18-year-old midfielder doesn’t want to extend his contract with FC Barcelona, which expires in 2027, and Paris hopes to trigger his €6 million release clause.
Mundo Deportivo:
The academy graduate has a €6 million release clause, and although the Catalan club intended to extend and improve his contract, which expires in 2027, all indications suggest he will leave the club during the winter transfer window. The player is facing stiff competition in midfield and feels he is getting very little playing time, despite the high level of confidence shown in him by the club and Hansi Flick.
Several sources within the dressing room told MD that Paris Saint-Germain could be a possible destination, given comments the player reportedly made to his teammates.
Sources within the club seem to confirm this hypothesis, while the player’s entourage categorically states that no offer has been received from PSG and that his future destination remains uncertain. Initial reports indicate offers from England (Manchester City were interested) and Germany, but PSG cannot be ruled out, given its financial resources and its extensive knowledge of FC Barcelona’s youth academy.
Fabrizio Romano:
Nothing is finalized yet, there’s no official confirmation. But seeing Fabrizio Romano confirm this rumor so quickly is interesting. It gives less of a sense that PSG is being used. But it’s not out of the question, as it’s something we’ve seen regularly in recent years.
It’s still a story to watch, because Paris could very well pull a fast one on Barça. Dro Fernandez is a great talent who seems to have the perfect profile for coach Luis Enrique’s style of play and PSG’s project. This could be a fantastic opportunity, and it would make sense for the club to try its luck.
