This Friday, as part of Matchday 19 of Ligue 1 2025-2026, Paris Saint-Germain faced Auxerre at the Stade Abbé-Deschamps. Christophe Pélissier, the Auxerre coach, spoke to Ligue1+ after PSG’s 1-0 victory.
Pélissier: “We’ve dropped a lot of points against the top teams like this.”
Dejected, but I imagine very proud of your team’s performance?
Yes, but the problem is that there have been many matches where I’m proud of them, but in the end, there are zero points. Tonight, we showed a disconcerting naivety. In the end, when you see that Paris couldn’t convert their chances, we shouldn’t have been so open as we were on a corner. But we’re always at the mercy of making a mistake, and we’re making a lot of those at the moment. We’ve dropped a lot of points against the big teams like this. It’s very disappointing tonight.
Pélissier: “It really leaves a bitter taste.”
Your team put in a lot of effort.
That’s what frustrates me, because I can’t fault anything in terms of commitment and working for the team. It was the same against RC Lens last week. But when teams like that, with big individual players who are stronger than us, you can’t afford to make mistakes, and making a mistake like tonight really leaves a bitter taste.
Pélissier: “We’re in a vicious cycle.”
Congratulations, what’s your biggest challenge today? Because there’s quality in your team.
We need to score goals. I think we have the weakest attack, and that’s paradoxical, because we have quality up front. We manage to get the ball into the final third in a good way. But we can’t capitalize because we lack a bit of confidence. We lack spontaneity and a bit of luck. We’re in a vicious cycle rather than a virtuous one.
So it becomes very difficult, even though we weren’t expecting much from tonight’s match. When you put in a performance like we did, you have to take points. These are teams that are better than us, but there was a chance to take at least a point, and tonight that makes me incredibly angry.
