Paris Saint-Germain defeated Auxerre 0-1 this Friday at the Stade Abbé-Deschamps in Matchday 19 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. After the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke to Ligue1+.
Luis Enrique: “We started having problems, inaccuracies, it was very difficult.”
There was a lot of frustration this week, and did you feel a sigh of relief?
Of course, I think that midweek match left a negative impact on our confidence and precision. When you come into a match needing to be on point, and you start brilliantly, and then you start having problems and inaccuracies, it was very difficult. I think we deserved to win, but to win, you have to score goals, and in the end, we scored the goal with Bradley. It’s a huge relief.
Luis Enrique: “I could see that the players are a little tense.”
What do you tell the players to score because we see that it takes a lot of chances to score just one goal?
You were a very good striker. Confidence is more important, and thinking about what you need to do to get what you need. I could see that the players are a little tense, a little imprecise because we’re starting to have the same pattern. We’re going to play against Newcastle; we’ll have chances, I hope. The most important thing for us is to instill confidence.
Luis Enrique: “I’m very demanding of him; he’s the best midfielder in the world.”
You weren’t satisfied with Vitinha’s positioning in the first half. Why?
I’m very demanding of him; he’s the best midfielder in the world, one of the two best in the world. I want him to be able to help the team even more, and he can do that. Our players had the opportunity to have the ball defensively, but I prefer Viti to be further forward and not as a striker, because we already have strikers. There was a bit of confusion about that, and I like to be demanding of players of his quality, or his teammates.
A return to the top spot?
It was the right time to put pressure on RC Lens, and I’m happy about that, but we need to improve to win against Newcastle.
