Luis Enrique, coach of Paris Saint-Germain (2nd in Ligue 1), held a press conference this Monday ahead of facing AS Monaco (8th) at the Stade Louis II tomorrow (kick-off at 9pm, CET) in the first leg of the 2025-2026 Champions League play-off (second leg on Wednesday, February 25). On the sidelines of this event, the Spaniard also spoke to PSG TV.
Luis Enrique: “Football doesn’t work like that.”
What’s the mentality like in the group?
It’s always difficult to handle a defeat. But you have to analyze it thoroughly, and I can say that we created just as many chances as against Marseille. We won 5-0 then, and now we lost. It’s tough. What we want, like the fans, is to win every match and score lots of goals. But football doesn’t work like that.
Luis Enrique: “Now is the time to perform.”
What difference does it make facing a French club?
For us, nothing. Because our mentality isn’t about thinking about anything else; the important thing is tomorrow’s match. We’re going to play it with the mindset of attacking. They’re a very good team, with top-level players. We know them. It’s difficult to think about the Champions League against a French club; it’s different. But now is the time to perform.
A message for the fans?
They’re incredible, it’s a real pleasure to have their support. We still feel like we need to give even more energy to win. Their support is unwavering.
