Paris Saint-Germain drew 2-2 against AS Monaco this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in the second leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League playoff (5-4 on aggregate). After this victory, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Enrique: “We deserved this qualification, but it was difficult.”
Are you disappointed with your team’s performance?
“We’re not used to facing a team that plays like us. We’re usually more precise. In the second half, we changed. We started it in the best possible way. We deserved this qualification, but it was difficult. It was a tricky match because of the first-leg result. When we lose our precision, we lose our level. We have to be happy with what we did by overcoming the difficulty of the first half.”
Does this match highlight your team’s weaknesses?
“If there’s one team in the competition that had the worst group, it’s us. If there’s one team ready for what’s next, it’s us. We’re ready for these matches. Of course, we want to improve, but there’s an opponent. The next matches will be easier against Barcelona or Chelsea.”
Why were you nervous until the very end of the match?
“Football is unpredictable. We were playing with a numerical advantage, but on the final free kick, we lost that advantage. Plus, their goalkeeper can come up for those kinds of chances.”
Enrique: “We’re lucky to be playing in front of these incredible fans.”
Did the sending-off make it easier to qualify?
“I never talk about referees. The way it unfolded was fantastic. The best in the world. We’re lucky to be playing in front of these incredible fans.”
Do you prefer Chelsea or FC Barcelona?
“It’s very simple: I want Chelsea or Barcelona. And I want to play the first match at home!”
Are you still paying the price for a poor preseason?
“Do the same thing. We are ready to face any team in any competition. There are three months of competition left, and we want to win every competition we play in. It’s a very difficult objective.”
