This week saw the first legs of the 2025-2026 Champions League Round of 16 matches played. UEFA then organizes various votes among the fans. Paris Saint-Germain, who won at the Parc des Princes this Wednesday against Chelsea (5-2, video highlights PSG/Chelsea), did not have a player in contention for the Champions League Player of the Year award. The competition was between Federico Valverde (27-year-old midfielder/right-back from Real Madrid), Michael Olise (24-year-old winger/attacking midfielder from Bayern Munich), Julian Alvarez (26-year-old forward from Atlético Madrid), and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (25-year-old forward from PSG).
Nothing illogical about his performance against Manchester City, including a hat-trick. Of course, the competition was very high-level and everyone had their say, especially Kvaratskhelia with his fantastic performance off the bench. But Valverde deserves all the praise heaped on the team.
