Lucas Hernandez, the 30-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender, spoke to Ligue1+ after the 3-1 victory against Toulouse this Friday at the Parc des Princes, in the 28th round of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season.
Hernandez: “We’re going to need everyone to try and achieve everything we want.”
Were you impressively composed as a team today?
Yes, good evening. We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy match, especially after the break. We have players who only returned yesterday. It’s important for us to get back into shape and prepare for Wednesday’s match. We’re all very confident, and of course, we’re looking forward to that match. We’re ready.
Is the squad being managed well? Are you all happy?
Yes, everyone is involved, everyone is ready. The coach knows that whenever he needs any player, everyone is there. That’s very important for the future because it’s a long road ahead, and we’re going to need everyone to try and achieve everything we want.
Hernandez: “But that’s not the way to go.”
With less playing time, how do you do what it takes to stay focused?
I simply stay connected to training. You have to give 100%. Of course, when you’re not playing, you can sometimes drag your feet, show that you don’t want to, that you’re angry. But that’s not the way to go.
I think that if you’re not playing, the most important thing is to show the coach that you’re giving your all and that you’re ready to start any match. The coach knows that whenever I’m not playing, I give my all in training, and if he needs me, he knows I’ll be there. That’s what I’ve always done, and that’s what I’ll always do.
What was it like in the United States?
It was long, but honestly, it was great. We have a very good French team, and we’re all confident, hoping to make the final roster in May.
