On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain traveled to Germany to face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final and drew 1-1 (5-6 on aggregate). Following the match, Luis Enrique, the Parisian club’s coach, spoke to PSG TV about his players’ performance.
Luis Enrique: “It shows what kind of team we are.”
“I think what we showed today and throughout the season, particularly in the Champions League, is an incredible level. We played against one of the best teams in the world, away from home, and we did it with the necessary maturity and character.
It shows what kind of team we are. Today, with nearly 4,000 fans, we shared that suffering because there were some tough moments. But we’re happy.” “We showed that we like to have the ball, but when we have to defend, we know how to do it.”
Luis Enrique: “We’ve always felt this connection between the fans and the team.”
“It’s time to enjoy this with all the Parisians, and we have to think about the upcoming Champions League final. For the three years since I arrived here in Paris, we’ve always felt this connection between the fans and the team.
It’s very important because when you have the ability to share that with the fans and you truly enjoy playing for Paris Saint-Germain, it’s incredible. We have to keep going because there’s still one Champions League match to win. We also have to win the next match against Brest to win the league title; it’s important to keep going.”
PSG secured their place in the Champions League final for the second year in a row with this draw. This second leg at Bayern Munich’s stadium was always going to be a tough match against a team that has been racking up goals at home in every European fixture this season.
But PSG came out firing, right from the opening minutes. The real feat, however, came during the remaining 90 minutes, where the Parisians displayed incredible defensive solidity until Harry Kane’s late goal, which fortunately had no bearing on the outcome. PSG has written another glorious chapter in its history, but there’s still one final match to play. A match that could allow them to achieve a historic double and further cement their place in French football history.
