Julian Alvarez, the 26-year-old Argentinian striker for Atletico Madrid (under contract until 2030), was linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024 when he left Manchester City. But the idea of a transfer to Paris has recently resurfaced. On Sunday evening, journalist Pedro Morata (Marca) spoke with Luis Enrique, the PSG coach, who reportedly contacted the player. And he wouldn’t be the only one to have made a move.
“Julián’s entourage confirms that Luis Enrique sent a direct message to the player and that Mikel Arteta (Arsenal manager) also contacted him between March and May. Deco (FC Barcelona’s sporting director) also called Julián’s agent before Atletico vs. Arsenal simply to express that FC Barcelona would be interested if there were any opportunities. The player doesn’t feel comfortable with Diego Simeone.”
Nothing is impossible, since Julian Alvarez is a striker who could easily attract the interest of Europe’s biggest clubs. Technically precise, capable of being decisive with goals or assists, versatile, combative… his profile is certainly appealing. The Argentinian could fit very well into PSG’s style of play, as well as that of other teams.
There are, however, some off-field controversies, particularly regarding the rivalry between Argentina and France, which could deter the club somewhat. But we also know that these issues can be overcome with good behavior and strong performances.
In any case, nothing is certain at the moment. PSG might be tempted, just as other players could be targeted. We also don’t know the player’s preference. Not to mention that Atlético Madrid might well try to block the move for Alvarez. Nothing is finalized; the rumor mill continues to churn without any concrete evidence.
