Achraf Hakimi, the 27-year-old right-back for Paris Saint-Germain, has been the subject of a rape investigation since late 2023 following a report filed by a 23-year-old woman (at the time of the alleged incident) with the police. The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office had requested that he be formally charged, and the player appealed. This Friday, the Versailles Court of Appeal announced the rejection of the appeal in a press release.
“There is sufficient evidence against Mr. Achraf Hakimi.”
“The investigations carried out during the preliminary inquiry and the judicial investigation led the investigating chamber to conclude that there is sufficient evidence against Mr. Achraf Hakimi to justify his indictment before the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court.”
Hakimi quickly reacted on social media, in a post promising reassurance and liberation.
“If you weren’t famous, there would never have been a case.”
“The court looked me in the eye and said, ‘If you weren’t famous, there would never have been a case.'”
I chose to remain silent for years. I thought that maintaining my dignity, being patient, and trusting in the justice system would allow the right decisions to be made.
“Finally, I can speak.”
Today, a story that isn’t mine is being told at the expense of my family, my life, and above all, the truth. I sometimes feel like I’ve become an easy target.
I’ve been waiting for this trial since day one. And now I’m eagerly awaiting it.
Finally, I can speak.”
It’s surprising to see the player so confident now that the court has confirmed the trial. This trial could also expose a false accusation aimed at exploiting Hakimi’s resources. But we don’t want to jump to a verdict too soon. We must always be cautious; let justice take its course.
At the same time, the plaintiff’s side has understandably expressed great satisfaction and optimism for the future. This is to be expected; each side will defend its position. We now await the outcome of the case, with the justice system determined to get to the bottom of things.
