Achraf Hakimi, the 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain right-back, has been the subject of a rape investigation since late 2023 following a report made to the judicial police by a woman who was 23 at the time of the alleged incident. The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office had requested that he be formally indicted and sent to trial, a move the player appealed. That appeal was rejected by the Versailles Court of Appeal, paving the way for a trial. However, the full-back has now turned to the Court of Cassation, as reported by AFP and relayed by Le Parisien.
“A week after the confirmation that he would face trial in a criminal court for the rape alleged by a young woman in February 2023, Achraf Hakimi has decided to appeal to the Court of Cassation, as announced by AFP. Last Friday, the Versailles Court of Appeal upheld the decision to indict the Paris Saint-Germain full-back, following the investigating judge’s ruling in late February. His lawyers have, however, filed a final appeal with the Court of Cassation.”
This is a significant move by Hakimi and his team, who presumably have grounds to pursue this course of action. It is impossible to know the outcome yet; we must wait and see. In any case, the player expressed confidence a few days ago. For now, we must await the judicial process to gain a clearer picture of the situation.
