Lucas Chevalier, the 24-year-old French goalkeeper, joined Paris Saint-Germain from Lille during the 2025 summer transfer window to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, he has failed to establish himself so far and has seen Matvey Safonov (27) take over the starting role, raising questions about his future. Canal+ now reports that the goalkeeper has made a decision following a recent discussion with head coach Luis Enrique.
Lucas Chevalier is staying at PSG. The young goalkeeper held extensive talks with Luis Enrique on several occasions. Reassured, he has decided to give himself a chance to reclaim the number one spot
It is certainly plausible; despite a few rumors early in the summer, there is currently no sign of Chevalier leaving. That said, things could still change quickly depending on opportunities that arise. For now, however, it seems likely the goalkeeper is focused on establishing himself at PSG.
He has only played one season, and his adjustment period was very difficult. We have often seen players bounce back after a poor first year. However, the nature of the goalkeeper position creates more pressure to perform and offers less room to prove oneself, as mid-match substitutions only occur in the event of an injury.
Nevertheless, PSG invested in him a year ago, and that decision was not made lightly; coach Luis Enrique clearly believes in his qualities. Now he must fight as hard as he can, though he faces competition from Safonov—a player who has shown he is never afraid of a challenge. That said, Safonov might find it difficult to lose the starting spot after such a strong season.
