Jonathan David, a 26-year-old forward under contract with Juventus until 2030, failed to impress during his Serie A season. Consequently, there is frequent talk of a potential departure. This Monday, Corriere dello Sport identified him as a possible target for Paris Saint-Germain.
“Following the departure of Gonçalo Ramos, PSG is reportedly considering Jonathan David (who is also attracting interest from the Premier League); he is seen as more attainable now that Kolo Muani has arrived in Turin. Luis Campos, PSG’s transfer chief, originally signed David for Lille from Gent and has consistently praised him. He is reportedly the driving force behind a potential new move for the Canadian, who would bolster Luis Enrique’s attack.”
Admittedly, Campos’s signing of David for Lille was a major success, given how well the Canadian established himself in Ligue 1. However, that alone is hardly enough to make him a likely PSG signing this summer. Not only is he coming off a very difficult season (6 goals and 4 assists in Serie A), but PSG’s attacking recruitment plans also appear to be largely settled.
Ferran Torres (26, FC Barcelona and Spain) and Mika Godts (21, Ajax Amsterdam and Belgium) seem close to signing, while Maghnes Akliouche (24) has already arrived from AS Monaco. It is hard to see a need to sign David as well. He might simply be a backup option should the deals for Torres or Godts fall through. But that remains a long shot. It could simply be an Italian newspaper stirring up speculation over very little—or nothing at all. That certainly wouldn’t be the first time.
