Blaise Matuidi, former midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team and now the club’s ambassador, spoke to PSG TV after the draw for the group phase of the Club World Cup. With Atlético Madrid, Botafogo and Seattle, the former Parisian midfielder insists that PSG have some tough opponents to face in the 1st edition of this competition.
Matuidi “They’ll be tough games, but we’ll tackle them as best we can.”
What do you think of the group?
It’s a tough group. There’s Atlético Madrid, who we know well, Botafogo, who have just won the Copa Libertadores, and Seattle, who were CONCACAF champions in 2022. It’s going to be a tough group, but we’ve got the quality to try and do well and qualify. That will be our objective. They’ll be tough games, but we’ll tackle them as best we can.
Is it special to face a team from the host country?
Yes, it is special. PSG are used to this kind of encounter, so we’re going to prepare as well as we can. We know we’ll have the fans with us too.
Is it a great tournament for PSG fans around the world, particularly in the United States?
Yes, we have fans all over the world, especially here. We know that many of them will come to support us.
