In Matchday 5 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2-1 victory over Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome. The result allows Paris to climb the table heading into the international break, while OM languishes in 17th place.

PSG squandered numerous chances, and OM briefly harbored hopes of a last-minute equalizer; however, Paris’s dominance was clear, and the win was well-deserved. Ultimately, Paris achieved their main objective, continuing their climb up the standings.

There were other notable results over the weekend. It started with the very first match, as AS Monaco confirmed their strong start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Lens—a team that showed promise in their first outing following the arrival of Yannick Cahuzac, who replaced Dino Toppmöller. It wasn’t easy for the Monégasques, but they secured the points—and top spot in the table along with them.

Paris FC are also looking impressive following what appears to have been a very smart transfer window. Meanwhile, Strasbourg missed the chance to cement their place among the league leaders—a spot now held by Paris FC. The same goes for Olympique Lyonnais, who handed Rennes a heavy defeat just before the break in a match many expected to be much tighter. OL head into the break full of confidence, while Stade Rennais are left with questions to answer.

Lower down the table—though still relevant to the top end—Nice pulled off the weekend’s biggest upset by securing their first win of the season. What’s more, they did it against Lille, a team that had previously recorded three wins and a draw (against PSG). It is a crushing blow for Lille, while the Aiglons can finally breathe a little easier. This is also the case for Auxerre, who confirmed their determination to climb the standings with a second consecutive victory, despite Brest opening the scoring.
