Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2–1 victory over Olympique de Marseille this Sunday at the Stade Vélodrome in Matchday 5 of the 2026–2027 Ligue season. Following the match, PSG head coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Luis Enrique: “We gave the fans a great moment with this victory.”
What is your takeaway from this match?
Nothing different from usual. It was tricky in the opening minutes; we tried to control the game. We controlled the first half but didn’t create many chances. They defended very well.
As for the second half, I think we started brilliantly. We created plenty of chances, but the problem was our finishing. We scored, conceded almost immediately, and that’s why it was difficult. But we took the three points. And we gave the fans a great moment with this victory.
What did you say to them at halftime to shake things up a bit?
I don’t recall exactly what I said. But clearly, the difference lies in the fact that OM did a great defensive job in the first half. It’s normal to face more difficulties in the first period; opponents are fresher and their physical condition is much better.
It’s routine; it’s normal. There are always more chances in the second half. It’s tough playing against a team like ours because the immense effort expended in the first half creates spaces in the second due to fatigue.
Luis Enrique: “To keep growing, we needed these signings.”
Are you surprised by Ferran Torres’s ability to adapt?
I am particularly happy with all the players we’ve signed. They bring us very important qualities. To keep growing, we needed these signings. Ferran Torres is in incredible form. His movement off the ball is excellent. And when you have players like ours—playmakers—the overall result is highly beneficial. We are very happy.
Does it worry you to see a team like Olympique de Marseille so low in the standings?
It’s a unique situation for OM. But I think they have a very experienced coach. He will help the team improve. Coaching a team at this level is very difficult. But I think they will improve.
Luis Enrique: “We have a connection with the Moroccan national team”
Hakimi is unavailable but has been called up by Morocco—what decision have you made? Will he be resting? How will you coordinate with their medical staff?
“My decision? No decision. I have total trust in Hakimi; he cannot play the next international match because he is suspended. And that’s it. We are in contact with the Moroccan national team to monitor his condition, and we understand how important it is for players to play for their national team.
I’m happy for him to go, but we don’t want to take any risks, because the players’ health is our top priority.”
