In the final match of Ligue 1 Matchday 5, Paris Saint-Germain traveled to face Olympique de Marseille and secured a 2–1 victory. Speaking to PSG TV after the game, Luis Enrique, the capital club’s manager, discussed the win.
Luis Enrique: “The second half was much better than the first.”
“A Classique is exhausting! But I’m very happy. Some people thought it would be easy; I didn’t. Today, we saw once again how difficult it is to play a Classique—and how hard it is to play away from home, as always, especially at the Vélodrome. But I think we played a very good match.
The second half was much better than the first. We looked to improve on our first-half performance and create plenty of chances. We succeeded, and we’re delighted to take home these three points, which we know are important to our fans.”
It was a fine victory for PSG, who won away from home in the season’s first Classique. The first half was arguably tougher than expected. The capital club dominated possession but struggled to carve out clear-cut chances. Marseille defended in a compact block and held firm, even managing to threaten on the counter-attack.
They managed to get back into the game shortly after PSG opened the scoring, only to concede a second goal soon after. Overall, it was a successful outing for PSG, a team that is gradually hitting its stride. The upcoming international break will be welcome before they return to action for a packed October schedule featuring both the Champions League and domestic league play.
