“By stepping his right leg in front of Marseille’s Amine Gouiri—who had already begun to lose his balance and fall forward before any contact occurred—PSG’s Désiré Doué managed to deflect the ball. Consequently, in this situation, the contact with the forward cannot, in itself, be deemed a foul. The referee’s decision not to award a penalty was therefore the correct one.”
This clarification is particularly interesting for the nuance it adds to the incident. The refereeing department does not deny that contact took place between Désiré Doué and Amine Gouiri; it simply holds that the contact was insufficient to constitute a foul, noting that the PSG player succeeded in playing the ball while the Marseille forward had already begun to lose his balance.
