According to L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain could have three options for joining the future NBA Europe league: acquiring the rights to Paris Basketball, targeting Levallois, or establishing a brand-new club. These scenarios depend on QSI potentially submitting a bid for a project that remains uncertain.
Acquisition or creation?
“In reality, three options are open to PSG should it decide to bid for a spot in NBA Europe: QSI could decide to purchase the rights to Paris Basketball. Preliminary—though ultimately inconclusive—discussions to this effect took place just over a year ago.
Alternatively, it could set its sights on Levallois Metropolitans […] considered a professional setup eligible for an NBA Europe spot under the league’s requirements.
Or, finally, it could decide to create a basketball club from scratch—potentially based in Poissy, for instance, should PSG choose that Yvelines town to host its future stadium and the associated planned expansions, including a 20,000-seat arena.”
These scenarios would entail different levels of commitment for QSI. Leveraging an existing club would provide a ready-made sporting foundation, whereas starting a new club would require building an organization from the ground up. While the past contact with Paris Basketball represents a tangible detail, the fact that it did not lead to a deal means this option cannot be considered the frontrunner. L’Équipe reports neither an agreement nor a formal bid at this stage.
The Poissy scenario would hinge on a combination of factors: selecting the town for the future stadium, developing the associated facilities, and establishing a club. The prospect of a basketball team could thus add a new dimension to PSG’s relocation project. However, at this point, none of the three avenues guarantees participation in NBA Europe.
