This Saturday, October 17, Paris Saint-Germain (6th) face Strasbourg (11th) at the Stade de la Meinau (kick-off at 5:15 PM, CET) in Matchday 7 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. As before every match, here is a look at the Parisians’ opponents.
Strasbourg’s Situation –
After a dismal period of sporting and financial decline that saw them drop to the French fifth division in the 2011-2012 season, Strasbourg managed an impressive resurgence. A key factor was partnering with the Alsace region starting in 2012 to regain financial strength. RCSA secured their return to Ligue 1 in May 2016 and established a reputation as a tough team to play against. Initially known for a physical, defensive style, they have since developed a more attacking game.
There have still been difficult spells, and various managers have come and gone with varying degrees of success. The project gained new momentum in 2023 through the new shareholder BlueCo, an American investment consortium that also owns Chelsea (among others), which facilitated certain signings. However, there is also an element of instability.
There is a high volume of transfers and frequent managerial changes. Hugo Oliveira arrived this summer to replace Gary O’Neil, who had taken over from Liam Rosenior in January. The start to the season has been very mixed, and questions are already being raised. This very young group—with the oldest player being 24—will need to grow up quickly.

Strasbourg’s playing style.
After further upheaval this summer, Strasbourg still seems to be finding its feet. There is a clear desire to play and be aggressive, yet the team isn’t exactly impressing in terms of pressing, possession, or rapid transitions. It will be particularly interesting to see what approach they adopt against PSG.
