This Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain released an official statement providing an update on injuries sustained the previous day against FC Barcelona (a 4-2 victory in the third matchday of the Champions League) involving Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (25-year-old forward), Ousmane Dembélé (29-year-old forward), and Marquinhos (32-year-old defender and captain).
Terrible news for Kvaratskhelia.
- Having suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during yesterday’s match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days.
- Following an injury to his left thigh, Ousmane Dembélé will remain under medical care for the next few weeks.
- Following an injury to his right thigh, Marquinhos will also remain under medical care for the next few weeks.
This is a massive blow for Kvaratskhelia, who will be sidelined for many months and will subsequently need time to return to full fitness. His season may well be over—or nearly so. We can only wish him strength as he faces this challenge.
As for Dembélé and Marquinhos, this is obviously bad news as well, though their absences are expected to be shorter. It is also worth noting that Nuno Mendes (24-year-old left-back) has been dealing with a muscle injury since this past weekend.
