Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal faced off this Tuesday at the Estadio de la Cerámica as part of the 4th matchday of the 2026-2027 Champions League league phase. The encounter ended in a 0-6 victory for the Parisian side. Following the match, the Spanish team’s coach, Inigo Pérez, spoke at a press conference.
Pérez: “The only thing to do is analyze and improve.”
“We are disappointed. We conceded goals one after another, and the blow was just too hard to take… We couldn’t even make our presence felt against them. I’m going to try to avoid the trap of responding with accusations. When you lose 6-0, the only thing to do is analyze how we approached the match and look to improve.”
It was difficult for the Villarreal coach to mount a defense for his team or his tactical decisions. While not everything went wrong, it was a crushing defeat. Granted, it came at the hands of PSG—a side that continues to establish itself as one of the best in the world—but the margin of the scoreline is brutal. This is especially true given that Paris was able to coast for much of the game after reaching a 0-4 lead by the 17th minute.
PSG even managed to add two more goals, despite a brief response from the “Yellow Submarine.” A crisis may be looming for Pérez and his players; they will need to fight hard to turn things around during what is already a challenging period. Ultimately, they must use this match as an opportunity to learn and grow—even if the process is a painful one.
