Javier Tebas, president of La Liga and a long-time critic of Paris Saint-Germain, has spoken out about the club once again in an interview with L’Équipe. Having previously made unsubstantiated claims regarding the Parisian club’s financial resources and its alleged failure to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, he has now praised the capital club for its financial management over the last few seasons.
Tebas: “I hope PSG continues on this path.”
“Their revenue and expenditure are now much more balanced, which was not the case before. They are finally on the right track—the one we had hoped for. I hope PSG continues on this trajectory, without the situation deteriorating once again.”
At the time, it was quite striking to see the La Liga president criticizing PSG’s financial resources, given that Real Madrid and FC Barcelona rank among the most heavily indebted clubs in Europe. That chapter is now well and truly behind us; the Parisian club has adopted a different financial strategy and, crucially, has stopped overpaying for players during transfer windows.
Today, PSG is making headlines for its sporting achievements, having built a genuine team—devoid of individual “superstars”—that has dominated the European stage for the past two seasons. It is fascinating to see some of PSG’s harshest critics now changing their tune. Javier Tebas is neither the first nor will he be the last, but this serves as further proof of the respect the capital club now commands within the world of football.
