Presnel Kimpembe, the 30-year-old defender for Qatar SC after leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer, was invited by L’Equipe to discuss his former club’s current season. The PSG academy graduate is very confident about the team, despite some disappointing results.

Kimpembe: “That’s what’s so crazy about it.”

“I think it’s still the same team as last season. The others are trying to adapt a little more, but we’re still a well-oiled machine. Technically, tactically, in terms of counter-pressing… Everyone is still just as committed, that’s what’s so crazy about it. Last season, at this point, everyone had written us off. You can’t predict or anticipate football. It’s madness. Then, suddenly, there was the Manchester City match (4-2, January 22nd in the Champions League) and that was a turning point.”

As a PSG fan, Kimpembe is inevitably somewhat biased in his opinion. However, there’s also some truth to his point, which hasn’t been emphasized enough lately. The Parisians lacked efficiency, which spoiled some results and can, of course, be criticized. But it’s a shame to overlook their considerable talent.

Especially for a PSG side lacking proper preseason training, needing to build momentum throughout the season, and having had to adapt to several key absences. It was a season everyone predicted would be very difficult, and it’s a shame to forget that because of a few missteps. Above all, we can emphasize that PSG is ultimately progressing quite well and that there’s hope for a strong finish to the season. Even if inefficiency and the unpredictable nature of football cost them the Coupe de France.
