Achraf Hakimi is, unsurprisingly, among those absent from the Paris Saint-Germain squad for tomorrow’s Champions League match against Athletic Bilbao. He will therefore not play again in Paris in 2025, as journalist Fabrice Hawkins (RMC Sport) indicates that he will complete his recovery in Morocco in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which begins on the 21st.
“Achraf Hakimi will go to Morocco to continue his rehabilitation and prepare for the AFCON. A member of PSG’s medical staff is accompanying him to monitor his progress. The idea is for the Moroccan to be available for selection with PSG as soon as he returns from the AFCON. There is a good understanding between the PSG and Moroccan national team staff.”
This is an interesting choice, which will allow Hakimi to focus on the AFCON, as he wouldn’t have been able to play for PSG anyway. However, the club remains involved and will monitor the player’s recovery. This approach avoids any controversy in the coming weeks, while also ensuring the highest quality of work possible with the national team and club, who are collaborating closely. It’s excellent coordination. Let’s hope it pays off for the player, both during the Africa Cup of Nations and for the rest of the season.
