Portugal showed no nerves in Armenia, cruising to a 0–5 win in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Roberto Martínez was able to rely on a dominant Seleção, guided by a perfectly balanced collective. For PSG, the game had a special flavor: three starters (Vitinha, João Neves, and Nuno Mendes) plus Gonçalo Ramos coming on in the second half. Here’s a closer look at the performance of the Parisian quartet.

Vitinha, the midfield maestro

Vitinha delivered a masterclass. As the true hub of the team, his technical precision was near perfect: 92 successful passes out of 93 (99%). With 105 touches and 2 key passes, he constantly sped up the game and put his teammates in the best conditions.

Defensively, his impact matched his offensive influence: 7 duels won out of 9, proof of his fighting spirit. Already indispensable at PSG this season, he confirms that he has taken on a new dimension with the national team, where he is now one of the main engines of the Portuguese collective.

João Neves, the confirmed revelation

At only 20, João Neves impresses with his maturity. Starting the match, he fulfilled his role with exemplary rigor: 69/74 passes completed (94%), 82 touches, and a solid defensive presence with 6 duels won and 2 interceptions.

What stands out is his ability to push forward and break lines. With 4 progressive carries, he allowed Portugal to establish itself in the opponent’s half. At PSG, he is still finding his bearings, but this international performance already illustrates why the club invested in him: a midfield regulator capable of lasting ten years at the highest level.

Nuno Mendes, reliability regained

On the left flank, Nuno Mendes had a very solid match. Offensively, he stretched the play with 2/3 successful dribbles and 1 key pass, while defensively he won 6 duels and locked down his side.

With 64 touches and a 93% pass accuracy, he proved consistent and dependable. For Luis Enrique and PSG, seeing Mendes put in this kind of performance with the Seleção is excellent news—especially with tough European fixtures coming up.

Gonçalo Ramos, the hardworking substitute

Coming on in the second half, Gonçalo Ramos didn’t score but left his mark through his activity. In limited playing time, he showed perfect passing precision (15/15, 100%), registered 1 shot on target, and won 2 fouls. Always generous in his effort, he also won 4 duels, underlining his involvement in pressing.

While he didn’t shine in front of goal, his introduction energized the Portuguese attack. For PSG, this versatility—being able to make an impact off the bench—could prove crucial in a season where rotation will be essential.

Conclusion

In this commanding Portuguese victory, PSG’s players lived up to expectations. Vitinha and João Neves dominated midfield with brilliance, while Nuno Mendes confirmed he is getting back to his best. Off the bench, Gonçalo Ramos brought his trademark energy. An ideal night for Portugal and a valuable one for PSG, whose internationals return with rhythm and confidence.
