On Tuesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain won 0-1 (video highlights Arsenal/PSG) against Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League 2024-2025 semi-final (return on May 7) at the Emirates Stadium. Here are our top and bottom stories.
Tops –
An English-style victory
It’s hard to deny ourselves a little pleasure. PSG won, away from home, before returning to the Parc des Princes. No goals conceded, one goal scored and a real collective performance. PSG have been transformed compared to other seasons.
Dembélé and Donnarumma
We’ve heard enough about the need to be effective in both areas, and both players managed to do what was needed when it was needed. Dembélé was ultra-efficient, as was the Italian, which is good news in a Champions League semi-final.
Solid performances from all the players
Vitinha was very good, Joao Neves did some damage. Kvaratskhelia ran all over the place. Hakimi is a real leader, Pacho is too strong in duels. This team was able to win without being so strong with the ball. It’s proof that this team can adapt. Their mental strength is incredible, and their game is highly technical. The permutations, the runs, this PSG is a pleasure to watch. One thing’s for sure: we’ve improved on last year’s performance, regardless of the outcome of the second leg.
Flops –
Dembélé’s injury
He’ll have lasted all season, or nearly all. The injury may not be serious, but it shows that the body is starting to stiffen and that the year’s efforts are starting to take their toll. We hope he’ll be back for the return leg.
Doué and Nuno Mendes the sin of pride
Both did things you shouldn’t do in a match at this level. They both did things you shouldn’t do in a match at this level. It could have been costly. They need to improve their management and, above all, their choices and decision-making.
