On Tuesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain lost 2-0 (Arsenal/PSG video highlights) to Arsenal on Matchday 2 of the 2024-2025 Champions League at Emirates Stadium. We take a look at some of the highlights and lowlights of this defeat.
Tops –
João Neves :
Not an incredible top, but at 20, he didn’t hide. He defended and attacked, and his team-mates could have taken a leaf out of his book. He’s still growing, even if on Tuesday night, you had to dig deep to find a real top.
Flops –
Set-pieces (crosses):
Interpret Donnarumma’s failure to get out and stay soft in this area, but also Parisian defensive passivity. Pacho, strong on the ground, did less well in the air, Trossard was able to adjust to serve Havertz. It was written, it happened.
Vitinha:
He’s not back to his pre-injury level, but he did play, so his missed match should be highlighted. Sad to see, he didn’t help his team maintain control in midfield, but also in launching attacks.
Bradley Barcola:
Not helped, but not inspired either. He’s still young, he needs to do better, be more consistent. No shots, that’s a failure for him. He’ll have to raise his game against the big teams.
Lack of offensive risk-taking:
PSG play too much 10-man passing too often without changing their rhythm. This needs to be improved, especially in this type of match where the opponent is well grouped and calibrated to defend well. There’s a lack of madness.
