Nuno Mendes, the 23-year-old left-back for Paris Saint-Germain, stopped in the mixed zone after the 0-0 draw against Athletic Bilbao this Wednesday at the San Mamés Stadium in Matchday 6 of the 2025-2026 Champions League.
Nuno Mendes: “If we had done that, I think we would have scored.”
Disappointment?
It’s normal. We’re a team that likes to win. But we’re not frustrated with the result, more with what we did today. I think we could have controlled the game better, had more possession. If we had done that, I think we would have scored. Today, we weren’t at our best, at our maximum. But it was a good match, a high-intensity match, and we played well.
What was missing?
Having the ball, controlling the game, making the right choices. We were good in the second half, when we had the ball. But when we got in front of goal, we couldn’t score.
Nuno Mendes: “We couldn’t find the right players in the right positions at the start of the match.”
Was the intensity surprising?
No, we already knew it would be a high-intensity match. Playing here isn’t easy, we knew that. We didn’t control it. That’s the most important thing, controlling the game and having the ball.
Were you troubled by their pressing in the first half?
A little, they were good, they pressed high. We couldn’t do our best in the six-yard box. We couldn’t find the right players in the right positions at the start of the match. But then, we managed to get out of our own half. They have good players too, they made things difficult for us.
Nuno Mendes: “I feel good”
How are you feeling physically?
I feel good, I’m getting back into shape little by little. I think I’m doing well.
Is the standings, 3rd place, still a positive thing?
You never know, everything can change in two games. Today, we didn’t manage to win. But next time, I think we’ll be at our best to win.
