Luis Enrique, coach of Paris Saint-Germain (2nd), held a press conference this Thursday ahead of facing Auxerre (17th) at the Abbé-Deschamps stadium tomorrow (kick-off at 8pm, CET) as part of the 19th matchday of Ligue 1 2025-2026. Alongside this event, the Spaniard also spoke to PSG TV.
Luis Enrique: “It’s a crazy, wonderful sport.”
Does everything just happen?
It’s a bit like the life of a coach, and of the players too. A wonderful life, but always ups and downs. It depends on the results. When you play a match, after analyzing it, it’s incredible. It’s a crazy, wonderful sport.
But when you suffer from this feeling of injustice, because you gave it your all, you played your best away game since I arrived, even better than the 7-2 victory against Leverkusen… With the players’ efforts, it’s unbelievable to lose the match. It was the same feeling against Paris FC, it’s unbelievable. But the opponent plays too, you have to accept that.
Luis Enrique: “We want to be in the mix, to take first place.”
Is the objective to take first place?
Of course, we’re not where we want to be. You have to understand the difficulty of the match. There’s almost always a low block, with little time and space to create chances. But if there’s one club used to facing that, it’s us. We want to be in control, to take first place. Lens is in great form, with 10 consecutive wins (in all competitions).
Luis Enrique: “Don’t listen to the critics, we’re confident!”
Did Auxerre cause problems for Lens and Lille?
Yes, I saw the results against them, Marseille, Monaco, with only a one-goal difference. We have experience playing against them; they’re struggling. Everyone has seen that you can beat PSG if you have luck and do things right.
That’s the positive thing about this sport; anyone can win. All it takes is one opportunity. It’s a bit different in basketball or handball, where you have to attack. But I’m not going to change, even after a match where I think we deserved much more. And don’t listen to the critics, we’re confident!
